FY17 LHHS Full Committee Markup Bill Summary

Washington, D.C. – The fiscal year 2017 Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill provides a total of $163.8 billion.  This figure includes $161.9 billion in discretionary funding as well as $1.96 billion in cap adjustment funding, a $437 million increase, to prevent waste, fraud, abuse and improper payments in the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs.

Washington, D.C. – The fiscal year 2017 Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill provides a total of $163.8 billion.  This figure includes $161.9 billion in discretionary funding as well as $1.96 billion in cap adjustment funding, a $437 million increase, to prevent waste, fraud, abuse and improper payments in the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs.

FY17 Defense Full Committee Markup Bill Summary

Washington, D.C.  The Department of Defense (DoD) Appropriations Act, 2017 provides $574.6 billion in base and Overseas Contingency Operation (OCO) funding, compared to $572.9 billion enacted in fiscal year 2016 and $576.5 billion in the President’s budget request.  The base budget appropriation is $516 billion with $58.6 billion for Overseas Contingency Operations of the Department of Defense. 

      

The Subcommittee’s allocation conforms to the spending levels set by the Bipartisan Budget Act and provides adequate resources to protect America’s national defense needs, both at home and overseas.

Washington, D.C. – The fiscal year 2017 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill provides a total of $49.74 billion in discretionary and mandatory funding.  Of this total, $48.07 billion is for discretionary programs, including $163 million for Coast Guard overseas contingency operations (OCO) and a $6.7 billion cap adjustment for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund.  After excluding these two adjustments, the net discretionary appropriation for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is $41.201 billion, $246 million more than fiscal year 2016 and $578 million more than the President’s request.

Vice Chairwoman Mikulski Statement on Zika Supplemental Funding Votes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate voted on three Zika supplemental funding amendments.  The Senate voted, 68-29, to invoke cloture on the Murray-Blunt amendment, which provides $1.1 billion of emergency funding to stop the spread of the Zika virus and develop a vaccine.
