Congress Passes Six FY24 Government Funding Bills

Senator Collins was a lead negotiator of the bipartisan legislation.

Washington, D.C. – Today, by a vote of 75-22, the U.S. Senate passed the six-bill Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) appropriations package.  U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, was a lead negotiator of the bipartisan legislation, which now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

The legislation includes FY24 funding for: Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

“Passage of these six bills will prevent the agencies, departments, and the critical programs they provide from being shut down at midnight,” said Senator Collins.  “This package fully funds veterans' medical care, supports our farmers, fishermen, and ranchers, protects our nation's food and drug supply, provides critical resources for law enforcement, helps us better compete with China, advances American energy independence, and invests in our nation's infrastructure and national parks.  I thank my Republican and Democratic colleagues on each of the six subcommittees for their tremendous work in assembling this package, as well as Chair Patty Murray for her cooperation that has brought us to this critical point.”

Since taking the helm of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senators Collins and Murray committed to an appropriations process that provided Senators a voice in funding decisions through robust Committee proceedings that incorporated input from across the Senate.  That commitment guided their process as the Committee reported favorably its versions of these bills last summer, with five of the six bills reported unanimously.  Three of these bills – Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development – passed the Senate by a vote of 82 to15 in November.
